Report: Rudy Gobert agrees to a five-year extension with Jazz

The last time Rudy Gobert was in the news, well, people weren’t very happy with him. This time around, the All-Star center has agreed to a five-year, $205 million contract extension to stay with the Utah Jazz, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported early Sunday morning. Gobert could have become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Donovan Mitchell also signed a max contract extension this offseason with the Jazz, so Utah has its two cornerstones signed long-term.

Gobert is one of the best — if not the best — pure center in the NBA. He had been the reigning Defensive Player of the Year until losing the award to Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2019-20. Overall, Gobert is arguably the best defensive center in the NBA and one of the top defenders in the League, so getting a deal like this isn’t exactly surprising. Gobert is coming off possibly his best NBA season, averaging 15.1 points and 13.5 rebounds over 68 games.
