We’ve reached the end of the week and are almost finished up with all the division previews for the 2020-21 season. To close things out, we have the last division in the Western Conference: the Southwest. The Houston Rockets are the defending division champs by one game over the Dallas Mavericks. It should be a highly contested division, although that doesn’t matter too much for the standings.
The Mavs bring back almost the same roster from last season. Kristaps Porzingis may be sidelined to start the season but is expected to get back into the lineup sometime in January. When that happens, we could see the Mavs really take off. Luka Doncic will have to carry the team in the meantime, though that shouldn’t be difficult for the MVP co-favorite heading into the season.
The team to watch is the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pels brought in Stan Van Gundy and have some help on defense in Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams via trades. Those two will join a starting lineup already featuring two potential All-Stars in Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, plus another strong defender in Lonzo Ball. New Orleans could have one of the more balanced teams in the NBA this season.
