The 2019-20 NBA season came to an end in the middle of October, so the offseason is in full swing. We’re still waiting on some key dates, including when NBA Free Agency will start and when the 2020-21 season will begin. We do know that the 2020 NBA Draft is set for November 18th. Here, we’ll be tracking all the latest news, rumors and trades during the 2020 NBA offseason.

Report: Clippers showing interest in Rajon Rondo

Oct. 28 — The Los Angeles Clippers are looking to poach one of the big reasons why the Los Angeles Lakers won the title this season. The Clippers are reportedly interested in signing PG Rajon Rondo, per Marc Stein of The New York Times. Rondo can become a UFA when free agency begins after the NBA Draft, which could be November 20-21, per Stein.

Tyronn Lue expects Kawhi, PG-13 to stay with Clippers long-term

Oct. 27 — The new Clippers head coach told Rachel Nichols of ESPN that Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are expected to stay with the franchise past this upcoming season. Both Leonard and George have player options for the 2021-22 season. Lue was an assistant for the Clippers this past season under Doc Rivers, so his relationship with Leonard and George is likely one of the many reasons he was promoted.

Patrick Mahomes lobbies for Raptors to play in Kansas City

Oct. 26 — There was a report from Vincent Goodwill last week that stated the Toronto Raptors could play their regular season games in Kansas City. There is currently a travel ban from Canada to the U.S., so the Raptors will need to figure out where they’ll be playing in 2020-21 before the season starts. There were early reports saying that the season could start as early as December 22nd. Mahomes responded to a tweet by Bleacher Report encouraging the Raptors to play ball in K.C.

Report: Pacers interested in Gordon Hayward

Oct. 26 — For whatever reason, the Indiana Pacers want to trade for Gordon Hayward? Well, at least there’s talk of Hayward returning to Indiana, where he played college hoops for Butler University. Hayward is entering the final year of his deal with the Boston Celtics, a player option worth around $34 million. It would make sense for the Celtics to move Hayward to free up salary for this offseason, giving them flexibility to pay Jayson Tatum once his rookie deal expires.

The Celtics could ask for Myles Turner or Victor Oladipo in return. The salaries would need to match up and Boston does need to add size, so getting Turner back could give them a serviceable center option.

Report: Giannis won’t be traded if he passes on extension

Oct. 21 — Giannis Antetokounmpo will be a hot topic all offseason and in 2020-21. He can become a free agent after next season and it doesn’t appear he will sign an extension with the Bucks. If that’s the case, Milwaukee has made it clear the team won’t trade The Greek Freak if he chooses that path, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reported.

If Giannis signs a super max extension with the Bucks, he gets the extra fifth year — more money. If Antetokounmpo leaves, he can only sign for four years with another team. The money shouldn’t play much of a factor in Giannis’ decision. The Bucks ability to compete and win a championship will be the big reason he sticks around or bolts for another team.

Report: Andre Drummond, Cavaliers ‘far apart’ on contract talks

Oct. 20 — Drummond has a player option he can opt into that would pay him $28.7 million in 2020-21. He’ll likely opt in, though there is hope the Cavs can strike a deal on a contract extension, per Cleveland.com. The Cavaliers will likely lose C Tristan Thompson to unrestricted free agency this offseason. So keeping Drummond long-term might be in the Cleveland’s best interest. The Cavs could table extension talks and see how next season goes, potentially getting Thompson at a cheaper price tag.

Report: Jerami Grant drawing interest from Heat

Oct. 20 — The Miami Heat are expected to pursue potential free agent Jerami Grant this offseason, per the Miami Herald. Grant has a player option with the Denver Nuggets worth $9.3 million. He could turn that down and seek a bigger deal.

The Heat are expected to part ways with Derrick Jones Jr., who is an unrestricted free agent. Airplane Mode lost his role with the team after the Heat acquired Andre Iguodala and Jae Crowder, plus the emergence of Kendrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro. Jones has reportedly drawn interest from the Chicago Bulls initially.
