Report: Rockets to file protest after James Harden missed dunk in loss to Spurs

Houston arguing “misapplication of rules” after refs called back blatant dunk that cost game Tuesday vs. San Antonio.

The Houston Rockets will file a grievance with the NBA after refs botched a call on a dunk by James Harden in an eventual loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

The Rockets were up big in the fourth quarter when Harden received a breakaway. He put home an easy dunk, but the ball flew up in the air and bounced off the rim, confusing officials. They ruled the dunk didn’t count and the rest is history. Well, not exactly. Per the report, Houston wants to replay the remaining 7:50 of the game, when the Rockets were holding a 15-point lead against the Spurs. San Antonio would come back and force OT, but the two points would have been the difference.

The Rockets are also protesting that the refs didn’t allow for a coaches challenge of the play, using replay to clearly see that Harden’s dunk should have counted. We’ll keep an eye on this situation as it develops.
