LeBron James is one of the greatest players in NBA history, so sometimes we can expect him to get the benefit of the doubt from referees from time to time. On Wednesday evening against the Utah Jazz, this was taken to a slightly absurd level.
LeBron was bringing the ball up the court, when he decided to take a couple steps in between dribbles. It did not seem to be any kind of intentional effort to gain an advantage, he just seemed to not really care for a brief moment. The ref to LeBron’s right seemed to be not quite looking exactly at home, so it seems like he just missed it. Given the low key nature of that moment of the game, I suppose the refs were just looking somewhere else.
Whatever the case, Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic was not pleased with the non-call. It’s hard to blame him. Even as LeBron advances into the late years of his career, he’s still a great player who probably doesn’t need the advantage of blatant traveling calls.
But, alas, it is what it is.
