Wizards pull off massive upset over Heat

Washington entered the game as 11-point underdogs against Miami. Without All-Star Bradley Beal, the Wiz came through big for a small majority of bettors.

I don’t care how sharp you think you are ... there’s not way you saw this one coming. The Washington Wizards pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season on Monday night, taking care of the hot, hot, Miami Heat 123-105 at home. The Heat entered the game as 11-point favorites and riding a five-game winning streak, which had them at 2nd place in the Eastern Conference.

The Wizards were operating without a slew of regulars, including their best player Bradley Beal. Davis Bertans, Thomas Bryant and Rui Hachimura have also been out for a while now. So with all the injuries and the way the Heat were playing, everyone expected this to be an easy game for Miami. But that was far from the case.

Jordan McRae led the way for Washington with 20 points in the first half, finishing with 29 points overall and 55 fantasy points on DraftKings. Garrison Mathews (yes Garrison Mathews) finished with 28 points. Ian Mahinmi was the other big box score for the Wiz with 25 points and five rebounds.

As for the Heat, Jimmy Butler had an OK game, but man outside of him and Bam Adebayo it was a rough night for Miami. Butler finished with 26 points, while Bam had 14 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, coming close to a triple-double despite the massive loss. Many, including myself, dubbed the Heat as “for real” heading into Week 11 of the NBA season. Now, well, I’m not so sure. This is bad.
