Carmelo Anthony named Western Conference player of the Week

Trail Blazers forward making waves since return to the NBA, has helped get Portland back in the playoff picture.

Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony was named Western Conference Player of the Week.

Anthony has helped the Trail Blazers get back into playoff contention last week after a shaky start to his tenure in Portland. After going 0-3 in the first three games with Melo, the Blazers were 3-0 last week with Melo leading the way. He scored 23 points in a win over the Bulls, 19 in a win over the Thunder, and another 25 points against Chicago. He shot a combined 27-for-47 from the field during the three-game stretch as well as recording his first double-double of the season.

I highlighted Melo in my Week 7 NBA Waiver Wire article that was pubbed earlier today and I still believe he’s a must-add in most season-long formats. The Blazers have been playing better ball and Melo looks great, so once Damian Lillard can get 100% right, this team could take off. Anthony should continue to be a solid contributor of points and rebounds, while shooting a high percentage (at least for now) from the field.
