Report: Mets interested in trading for All-Star 2B Adam Frazier

The New York Mets could be looking to an upgrade in the infield with the trade deadline on the horizon later this month. Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported on Thursday morning that the Mets are in on Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star second baseman Adam Frazier.

This is not the first time that we’ve heard Frazier’s name mentioned in trade rumors as the White Sox were also reported to have interest. The Pirates are one of the worst teams in the National League and can afford to move Frazier in hopes of building up their farm system.

As for the Mets, Frazier would be a significant upgrade at second base, especially for a team with postseason aspirations. New York has a 45-38 record and is currently in first place in the NL East. The Mets have -286 odds to win the NL East, +550 odds to win the NL pennant, and 10/1 odds to win the World Series, per DraftKings Sportsbook.

This season, Frazier is slashing a career-high .326/.396/.461 with 4 HRs and 28 RBI. If the Mets were to trade for the 29-year-old infielder, he would be under team control until 2023, when he officially becomes a free agent. Frazier is making $4.3 million this season and is eligible for arbitration in 2022.
