The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to bolster an already solid pitching unit heading into the stretch run. The team is acquiring Danny Duffy from the Kansas City Royals, according to Jeff Passan. The MLB reporter suggested Duffy “could wind up pitching in a high-leverage, multi-inning relief spot.”
The Royals placed Duffy on the 10-day injured list on July 20th due to a left flexor strain. GM Dayton Moore told the media two days ago the team expected Duffy back in the rotation this season and his “return could come within next 3-4 weeks.”
Duffy is 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA across 61 innings pitched with 65 strikeouts on the season. The Dodgers starting rotation ranks third in WAR and their bullpen ranks ninth.
The Dodgers are two games back of the Giants for second in the NL West, but have a sizable lead in the wild card race. They are currently the odds-on favorites to win the World Series at DraftKings Sportsbook. They’re listed at +380 with the Houston Astros next at +625, a little under 24 hours before the trade deadline.
