Aaron Judge scratched from lineup, comes in mid-game to pinch hit [UPDATE]

Yankees OF was removed from the lineup with about a half hour to go before the game starts. He’s fine though, coming into the game to pinch hit.

Update — Judge is fine. He entered the game against the Rays in the 5th inning as a pinch hitter for Estevan Florial and is now in RF with Allen shifting to center.

New York Yankees OF Aaron Judge was scratched from Wednesday night’s lineup vs. the Tampa Bay Rays due to undisclosed reasons. Here’s the Yankees updated lineup after Judge was removed:

As you can see, Judge was batting second in the order, as he does. Now, it appears Gleyber Torres will move up to the 2-hole and Greg Allen is now in right field while Brett Gardner shifts to left field and Estevan Florial will play center field against the Rays.

This series against Tampa Bay is pretty huge considering the MLB Trade Deadline looms on Friday afternoon. The Yankees have been very quiet from what we’re used to seeing before the deadline. Not to say Judge is on the move (because that would be insanity). This could be injury related or it could be Covid-19 related. Judge was just activated off Covid-19 IL a few games ago after having to isolate for 14 days.

Most of the action on this game was on the over of 8.5 runs, which takes a hit now that Judge isn’t in the lineup for New York. Most of the ML bets were on the Rays, so whoever grabbed -130 before this news is looking pretty good.
