After a strong Memorial Day slate of games last Monday, today’s group leaves something to be desired with just three games taking place. The good news for baseball fans is that the first game gets started at 5:10 p.m. and the back half doesn’t get going until after 9:30 p.m., so you can catch at least part of every game if you time it right.
Best Games To Watch: Cubs vs Padres, 10 p.m. EST, ESPN
This game sticks out among the three because it’s the only game between two teams with records above .500. The Cubs sit atop the NL Central while the Padres are just two games back in the West.
The Cubs are sending Adbert Alzolay, who boasts a sub-four ERA, to the bump in this one. He came away with wins in his last two appearances, including a start against this same San Diego squad. The Padres are throwing Ryan Weathers, who came away with a loss last week when these two teams faced off, allowing seven hits and four runs in five innings of work.
Chicago swept a three-game series between these clubs last week at Wrigley.
Fantasy Spotlight: Jesus Aguilar, Miami Marlins
The big first baseman has been hot over the last week, earning 11 hits in his last 10 games. He’s on a two-game hitting streak where he’s had six total hits between Saturday and Sunday. He’s also gone yard in both those games as well.
The Red Sox are a better opponent than the Pirates, but when you’re seeing the ball that well there’s not much that can stop you.
Rookies to Watch: Jazz Chisholm, Miami Marlins
We’re rocking with two Marlins players in a row here simply because the schedule is so limited. If you’ve paid any attention at all to the team in Miami this season, you know Jazz is going to be a fun player to watch in the league for years to come. In his first season in the bigs, he’s hitting over .260 and has seven home runs, two of which he hit last week. When he gets on he also has solid speed, with nine stolen bags so far.
