Monday’s MLB slate will be one of the largest of the year. Seventeen games are set to take place between 2:20 p.m. ET and 10:10 p.m. ET. Four teams will take part in doubleheaders. We’ve identified a couple of interesting pitching battles to keep an eye on ahead of the action.

Best matchup: Jacob deGrom vs. Johan Oviedo

Update: deGrom has been scratched from tonight’s start with a side issue. Miguel Castro will start.

The New York Mets’ deGrom is playing like the best pitcher in baseball and is well on his way to a third National League Cy Young award. The 32-year-old right-hander entered Monday ranked third in strikeouts (59). He boasts a .57 WHIP and .51 ERA. Ovieda is usually a reliever but will draw a rare start on Tuesday for the Saint Louis Cardinals. The 23-year-old has a .93 WHIP and has given up three earned runs in 9 23 innings.

Sleeper matchup: Alex Wood vs. German Marquez

The San Francisco Giants’ Wood is having a career year in his age-30 season. The lefty is a perfect 3-0 in three starts with a .67 WHIP and 1.50 ERA. He’s given up just three runs in 18 innings. His BABIP is .200 and his LOB percentage is 84.9%. Marquez was supposed to start for the Colorado Rockies on Monday, but that was postponed because of inclement weather. The 26-year-old right-hander hasn't quite figured things out this season, but his BABIP (.295) is solid. The 2018 Silver Slugger recipient can be exciting and rack up Ks when he gets on a roll.
