Pitching matchups for Saturday’s MLB games

As we round the bases into the month of June, the final Saturday of May will feature several interesting matchups across the league as teams shape into midseason form. Two games in particular have our eye based off the combatants on the mound.

Best matchup: John Means vs. Lance Lynn

The Baltimore Orioles have been downright horrendous so far and are unsurprisingly at rock bottom of the American League standings. One of their only bright spots has been the pitching of ace John Means (4-0), who sports one of the lowest ERA’s in the A.L. (1.79) and is setting several batters down on strikes with an 8.8 SO9. He’ll duel with fellow Cy Young candidate Lance Lynn (5-1), the ace of the first place Chicago White Sox, who is sporting a 1.51 ERA, an SO9 of 9.4 and a 0.965 WHIP.

Sleeper matchup: Trevor Rogers vs. Nathan Eovaldi

As the Miami Marlins are entrenched in the dogfight that is the NL East, they’ll turn to Trevor Rogers (6-2) on Saturday to help them keep pace. The second-year stud is tearing it up with a 1.75 ERA through 56.2 innings pitched this season and has put down 70 batters on strikes so far. He’ll go tit-for-tat with Boston Red Sox SP Nathan Eovaldi (5-2), another strong arm trying to keep his team afloat near the top of their respective division. The 11-year veteran does have an ERA of 4.39, so we’ll see if the Miami bats can rattle him early.
