We have a full 15-game slate in the majors on Friday, beginning at 2:20 p.m. ET. Before first pitch between the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs, we’ll take a look at the best games on the schedule, rookies to keep an eye out for, and spotlight a relevant fantasy option.
Best Games To Watch
There are three games on the schedule that should be good to watch over the course of the night, starting at 7:10 p.m. ET between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets. The Mets are in first place in the NL East with a record 24-20, while the Braves are 2.5 games behind. Ian Anderson (4-1, 2.82 ERA) will be on the mound for Atlanta and Taijuan Walker (3-1, 2.05 ERA) will get the start for New York.
Following Braves-Mets, make sure to check out the San Diego Padres and Houston Astros at 8:10 p.m. ET. Dinelson Lamet (1-0, 1.64 ERA) will be on the mound for the Padres, while Framber Valdez will make his first start this season. This game is more so about the offensive players such as Fernando Tatis Jr., Jose Altuve, Eric Hosmer, and Alex Bregman as opposed to the pitchers.
The last game that we are going to highlight is Game 2 between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers at 10:10 p.m. ET. The Giants have yet to win a game against the Dodgers this season and been outscored 23-12 in four games. Anthony DeSclafani (4-2, 3.54) will start for San Fran, while Walker Buehler (3-0, 3.78 ERA) will be on the mound for LA.
Fantasy Spotlight
We haven’t talked about this player much during this season, but second baseman Marcus Semien is having an amazing 2021 for the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto signed the veteran to a one-year, $18 million deal in the offseason, which appears to be paying dividends. He is hitting .288/.355/.545 with 13 HRs and 31 RBI in 220 plate appearances. The 30-year-old is also averaging 10.1 fantasy points per game in DFS. Semien has hit in two HRs and recorded a hit in five straight games.
Rookies to Watch
Toronto Blue Jays rookie pitcher Alex Manoah made his major league debut against the New York Yankees Thursday afternoon and did not disappoint. The fifth-ranked prospect in the Jays’ system only allowed two hits and struck out seven hitters in 6.0 IP. He became the first pitcher from the 2019 MLB Draft class to make his MLB debut and appears to be the shot in the arm that the Blue Jays need in their rotation.
