Pitching matchups for Wednesday’s MLB games on May 26

We have a full 15-game slate on Wednesday, with the first game beginning at 1:110 p.m. ET between the Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins. We are going to look at the best pitching matchup and the sleeper pitching matchup that could turn out to be a pitchers’ duel.

Best Matchup: John Gant vs. Carlos Rodon

We started off Wednesday with a great pitching matchup at 2:10 p.m. ET between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox. Jon Gant will be on the mound for red birds, while Carlos Rodon will get the start for the Sox. Gant has a record of 3-3 with an ERA of 2.04 and 32 strikeouts in eight starts this season. The 28-year-old starter had another quality outing for the Cardinals last week against the Pirates. Gant only allowed 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk and had three strikeouts in 5.1 IP.

As for Rodon, he is coming off an impressive performance against the New York Yankees last week, which is just another star on his resume. The former first-round pick produced a season-high 13 strikeouts and only gave up 2 hits in 6.0 IP. This season, he has a record of 5-1 and 1.27 ERA through seven starts.

Sleeper Matchup: Trevor Bauer vs. Luis Garcia

When it comes to the sleeper matchup, we usually do not involve the likes of Trevor Bauer, who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. However, Bauer will be facing off against Luis Garcia for the Astros. Bauer, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, is 5-2 with an ERA of 1.98 through 10 starts this season. He’s also recorded 88 strikeouts in only 63.2 IP. As for Garcia, he has a record of 2-3 and 3.38 ERA through seven starts (nine games) this season.
