The Milwaukee Brewers have placed Ace Corbin Burnes on the injured list as of Thursday afternoon. The team did not designate an injury, so this could be Covid-19 related. In that case, Burnes may be able to make it off the injured list in time for his scheduled start on Sunday, May 2, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. If it’s injury related and Burnes is on the injured list for 10 days, he could end up missing a start or two.
The Brewers also placed P Zack Godley on the injured list due to a right index finger contusion. The team recalled LHP Eric Lauer and RHP Alec Bettinger from Triple-A. As of Wednesday, Burnes was 5/1 to win NL Cy Young and was receiving a small amount of the betting action on DraftKings Sportsbook. So far this season, Burnes sports a 2-2 record with a 1.53 ERA and 49 Ks over 29.1 IP. He suffered his worse start of the season a few days ago against the Miami Marlins, allowing 4 ER over 5 IP with 9 Ks.
Godley pitched 3 innings on Wednesday against the Marlins and allowed 3 ER and 5 BB over 3 IP, which is less than ideal. Godley has struggled since his time with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a starter. Last season with the Boston Red Sox, Godley had an 8.16 ERA over 28.2 IP — again, not ideal.
