Pitching matchups for Sunday’s MLB games

MLB is wrapping up the weekend with a 15-game slate on Sunday. Games will begin between 1:05 p.m. ET and 7:00 p.m. ET. We’ve identified some of the best pitching battles to watch ahead of the action.

Best matchup: Joe Musgrove vs. Dustin May

Musgrove has been sensational for the Padres this year and boasts a 1.04 ERA. He racked up 13 Ks against the Milwaukee Brewers in his last start and is averaging 12.81 per 9 innings. His LOB% is 100, and seeing his skills put to the test against the Los Angeles Dodgers could show the world just how good he can be this year. His BABIP is .163 through 26 innings. May is still warming up this year and matched a season-high 8 Ks in his last start. May is one of MLB’s most talented pitchers, and it’s only a matter of time before he puts together his best performance of the season.

Sleeper matchup: Kohei Arihara vs. Lucas Giolito

Arihara is making his mark in MLB already. The Texas Rangers rookie joined a unique club in his last start and utilized seven different pitches in an inning against the Los Angeles Angeles. He doesn’t have a blistering fastball or ridiculous movement, but he has control over plenty of pitches and could make things challenging for the Chicago White Sox’s talented lineup. Giolito got absolutely demolished in his last start and gave up seven earned runs in an inning to the Boston Red Sox. Giolito was pulled early his last time out, but the 2019 All-Star has better days ahead. The Rangers aren’t the White Sox at the plate.
