Wednesday’s MLB slate will be jam-packed with action from early in the afternoon until late at night. The 15-game slate will start with a matchup between the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies at 1:05 p.m. ET and end with an 8:10 p.m. ET battle between the Tampa Bay Rays and Kansas City Royals. Let’s go over the best games, fantasy options, and rookies to watch.
Best Games To Watch
Update: Tonight’s game between the White Sox and Indians has been postponed.
The Chicago White Sox were no match for Shane Bieber in the first leg of their three-game series against the Cleveland Indians but bounced back with a win in game two to pull even with them in the American League Central. The two ball clubs are tired at three wins apiece in 2021, so the rubber game could be very interesting.
The Boston Red Sox have turned things around since getting off to a terrible start in 2021, boasting the second-most wins in MLB. The Blue Jays are 4.5 games behind in the American League East but have the batting to even their series with Boston at 1-1 because of an ideal pitching matchup. The Red Sox are starting Garrett Richards, who posted an ERA above 10 in each of his first two starts. He’s given up 10 runs in 12 innings of work. Vlad Guerrerro Jr. and company can capitalize on his struggles with a hot night at the plate.
Fantasy Spotlight
The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs have been two of the worst offensive ball clubs in MLB this year. The Cubs edged out the National League East leaders 3-1 on Tuesday but will start Zach Davies on Wednesday. Davies has given up 16 hits and 13 runs in 11.1 innings so far, so this is one of the best games for New York to pop at the plate. The Mets’ David Peterson is coming off a 10-strikeout performance and momentum could help him keep the score low. Banking on the Mets’ starter or hitters to come up big could give you desirable variance in DFS.
Rookies to Watch
Akil Baddoo is one of the Detroit Tigers’ few bright spots. He only has 10 hits this season, but four have been home runs. He’s in a bit of a slump, but the Pirates have one of MLB’s worst pitching rotations. If Baddoo makes contact, he can do damage. His blazing speed makes him a threat on the base paths if he doesn’t go yard.
