Pitching matchups for Friday’s MLB games on April 16

We head into the third weekend of the 2021 MLB season with a ton of great pitching matchups for Friday. Because the Phillies-Mets game got rained out on Thursday, New York ace Jacob deGrom has been pushed up to the Friday night slate against the Colorado Rockies. We’ll see if deGrom can stay stellar in the confines of Coors Field and the high-altitude launching pad.

Another ace is also in action for the Washington Nationals and that’s Max Scherzer, who was slightly better in his second start despite taking the loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Scherzer has a 3.75 ERA and 14 Ks over 12 IP in two starts. The D-Backs bats got hot last night and tore up Patrick Corbin. We’ll see if Scherz can fare a bit better than his teammate.

Update: Drew Smyly has been scratched from today’s start due to a forearm injury and has been placed on the 10-day IL for the Braves.
