Thursday’s MLB action will start just after noon with the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies at 12:10 p.m. ET kicking off a 12-game slate. The Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers will wrap things up with the final game of the night, which is set to begin at 10:10 p.m. ET. There will be a lot of fun baseball in between those two matchups, though. Let’s go over some of the best games, fantasy matchups, and rookies to watch.
Update: Thursday’s game between the Phillies and Mets was postponed due to rain.
Best Games To Watch
The Mets (5-3) and Phillies (6-6) rank first and second in the National League East, respectively, and will play out the fourth and final game of their second series against each other this year on Thursday. New York has won three straight in order to rise to the top and will deploy ace pitcher Jacob deGrom to finish off its rivals. Philadelphia is riding a losing streak, but won two out of three games against New York in a three-game series earlier this month.
The Cleveland Indians (6-5) and Chicago White Sox (6-6) are both within a game of the Kansas City Royals (6-4) in the American League Central. Both sides have secured one shutout in the series, but Cleveland has a chance to even things up at 2-2 with a win on Thursday. A new team could move to the top of the standings by the end of this matchup.
Fantasy Spotlight
The Boston Red Sox are back in business and have won nine straight games since getting swept by the Baltimore Orioles in their first series of the season. Boston is red hot at the plate and leads the league in hits (119). It also ranks second in runs scored (72) and batting average (.283). Whether the Sox can stay hot and build a larger lead on the American League East remains to be seen.
Rookies to Watch
Yermin Mercedes is batting .500 through 10 games and has racked up 19 hits in 38 at-bats. He put together yet another masterful performance on Wednesday by going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. The White Sox catcher has five multi-hit games under his belt and looks like a legitimate ROY candidate.
