After two games were postponed on Monday, we’ll have two double-headers on Tuesday! The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets got rained out in NYC and will similarly have a day-night two-headed dragon of baseball. Same goes for the Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles after rain postponed their game. So that gives us a grand total of 17 baseball games ... Sheesh. Let’s get into the slate a bit. The Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins also had a game postponed on Tuesday but will opt not to play twice right away.
Best Games To Watch
Game 1 or 2 of the Red Sox-Twins series will be fun. Boston entered Monday on a six-game winning streak. The Sox will send out Martin Perez and will look to stay perfect on the road this season. JD Martinez is making an early bid for AL MVP, batting nearly .500 with 5 HRs and 16 RBI early in the season.
The second game in the Phils-Mets matchup Tuesday features two pretty decent starters in Aaron Nola and Marcus Stroman. The Mets offense hasn’t gotten things going this season, scoring three or fewer runs in four of five games. We could see a ton of runs in the first game and not so many in Game 2. A Nola vs. Stroman pitcher’s duel wouldn’t be a bad night cap.
The final matchup to highlight on our calendars is a AL Cy Young duel. Shane Bieber vs. Lucas Giolito. Bieber is the reigning Cy Young winner in the American League and Giolito is looking to get in on some of that. The White Sox ace has allowed 5 ER through two starts but also has 18 Ks in 11.1 IP. Bieber has also allowed some runs this season through two starts but also has 12 Ks in each of them. This could just be nothing but a filthy strikeout-fest.
Fantasy Spotlight
Tyler Naquin ($4,200) entered Monday tied for the League lead with 5 HRs this season. The Cincinnati Reds have sort of surprised everyone by being the best offense through the first few series of 2021. That offense has struggled a bit the past three games, but Naquin is still affordable and at the top of the order. He’ll continue to be a chalk play, but that’s fine with Kevin Gausman on the hill for the Giants. We still aren’t buying his impressive start to the season. Perhaps facing a tougher offense will turn Gausman back into a gas can.
Rookie to Watch
With Ke’Bryan Hayes on the injured list for the Pittsburgh Pirates, it’s been another rookie the Bucs who has stepped up. INF Phillip Evans is leading the team in batting at .406 and has 3 HRs, 5 RBI and 24 total bases through 9 games this season. Despite Pittsburgh starting the season 3-7, Evans has been one of the bright spots.
