With the dawn of a new week comes the start of a bunch of new series across Major League Baseball. There’s 14 games taking place today with one afternoon game and the rest of the slate will start between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. est. Let’s check in on the best games to watch on Monday.
Best Games To Watch
Monday night’s tilt between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets should be an interesting one in this early season NL East matchup. This division is pretty wide open with four teams with realistic chances to come away on top. This marks the fourth meeting between the two squads. The biggest additional to the rivalry is Francisco Lindor, whom the Mets acquired from Cleveland. He’s gotten off to a slow start, hitting just .176 to this point, but it’ll be interesting to see how he plays in another big test from an NL East challenger.
Fantasy Spotlight
Be on the lookout when the Miami Marlins take on the Atlanta Braves tonight. The fish are throwing their ace, Sandy Alcantara, on the bump to start this series. The Braves have a potent offense that has given Alcantara trouble in the past, but through his two starts this year he’s been dealing. He has 17 strikeouts over 12 innings and has an ERA of just 1.5. He’s been in this groove ever since spring training, where his ERA was an even lower 1.33 through 20.1 innings tossed.
Rookies to Watch
Even though he’s sort of well known thanks to an absurd 2020 post season, Randy Arozarena is still playing under his rookie tag. So far this season he’s been swinging a hot bat and comes into Monday’s game with the struggling Texas Rangers hitting over .300. He’s also has two bombs and five RBIs on the young year and can be a catalyst for the Rays offense.
UPDATE: Today’s game between the Red Sox and Twins has been postponed. The Twins say it is not weather related.
