After a nine-game schedule on Friday, we have a stacked 15-game slate beginning at 1:10 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon. Before first pitch between the Miami Marlins and New York Mets at Citi Field, we’ll take a look at the best games on the schedule, rookies to keep an eye out for, and fantasy spotlight.
Best Games To Watch
For the second-straight Saturday in the majors, we do not have many spectacular starting pitching matchups. However, we do have an interesting game between division rivals to start off the day with the Marlins and Mets at Citi Field.
The last time we saw these two teams on the diamond, the Mets controversially defeated the Marlins 3-2, thanks to Michael Conforto getting hit by a pitch to score the winning run. The veteran outfielder did not try to move when he saw the pitch coming towards him and actually leaned into it. The Marlins will certainly be looking to get revenge on Saturday to tie up the series. Miami is scheduled to have Trevor Rogers on the mound, while the Mets will run out ace and two-time Cy Young award-winner Jacob deGrom. Another game to check out on Saturday is the San Diego Padres taking on the Texas Rangers at 7:05 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
Fantasy Spotlight
When it comes to the fantasy spotlight for Saturday’s slate in the majors, Nate Lowe of the Texas Rangers will be under the microscope. The 25-year-old first baseman has been one of the best stories through the first two weeks. Lowe leads the MLB with 14 RBI and has three home runs. He’s also slashing .320/.346/.720 and on pace to surpass his career highs both in home runs (7, 2019) and RBI (19, 2019). FantasyPros had Lowe’s average draft position at 378 before the season began. It is safe to say he has been a steal in fantasy baseball thus far.
Rookies to Watch
A couple of rookies to keep an eye on is Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India and Chicago White Sox designated hitter Yermin Mercedes. Both players came out of nowhere and should be in early contention for the AL and NL Rookie of the Year races.
When it comes to India, he had a solid Spring Training for the Reds, slashing .313/.441/.604 with three home runs and seven RBI. The 24-year-old infielder has carried that momentum over to the regular season, playing an integral part in Cincinnati’s success. He is hitting .476/.480/.619 with zero home runs and 10 RBI entering Friday. Furthermore, India only has five strikeouts in 25 plate appearances. As for Mercedes, he started out of the season on a smoldering 8-for-8 from the plate. The 28-year-old rookie is slugging .556/.571/.889 with two home runs and seven RBI. The rook leads the White Sox in hits (15), batting average, and is tied with Jose Abreu in home runs.
