Houston Astros finished last season with a record of 29-31 and one of the two teams in the American League to hold a wild card spot. The Astros are coming into this season with the same team, except George Springer. The veteran outfielder signed a blockbuster six-year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays in the offseason. Despite not having Springer, the Astros still have Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve, Michael Brantley, and Yordan Alvarez.
The Oakland Athletics surprisingly won the AL West last season with a record of 36-24. They tied with the Minnesota Twins for the second-best record in the American League. The A’s saw their season end in the ALDS against their division rivals, the Astros. Oakland lost both Marcus Semien and Liam Hendriks in the offfseason. They also traded away Khris Davis to the Texas Rangers for Elvis Andrus. Oakland still has Matt Olson and Matt Chapman, who will provide the pop for their offense.
