Report: Giants-Mariners Tuesday game to be postponed, series moved to SF due to air quality

The air is bad in Seattle right now. A day after a poor decision to make the Mariners and A’s play in a smoky environment, MLB might be coming to its senses.

The San Francisco Giants were scheduled to face the Seattle Mariners in a two-game series in Seattle this week, but the series is expected to move to San Francisco. The Giants are headed back to the Bay Area and the Mariners will head down to play the two-game set at Oracle Park, according to reporter Alex Pavlovic.

This news comes a day after the Mariners and Oakland Athletics faced off for a doubleheader in Seattle on Monday. The stadium was smoky throughout, and it was clearly a health hazard, and yet MLB did not postpone the games. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was well north of 200 for much of the day, and that is reportedly the number that requires physical activity be relocated or canceled. MLB chose otherwise.

The Giants were scheduled to start Tyler Anderson, while the Mariners were scheduled to start Ljay Newsome. Both teams have Thursday off if they don’t want to play a doubleheader on Wednesday.
