Report: Cubs-Cardinals weekend series postponed due to positive Covid-19 tests

The Cardinals and Cubs were set to open a three-game series, but that appears off for now.

MLB: JUL 07 Cardinals Summer Camp

UPDATE 6:06 p.m.: MLB is expected to postpone the weekend Cubs-Cardinals series due to the Cardinals’ positive Covid-19 tests.

The St. Louis Cardinals will not be restarting their season as soon as they were hoping. The Cardinals Friday series opener against the Chicago Cubs has been postponed due to additional positive Covid-19 tests, according to beat writer Mark Saxon. There is no word yet on the rest of the series.

The Cardinals had their last two series postponed due to positive tests. They were going to face the Milwaukee Brewers last weekend and then Detroit Tigers earlier this week. The Cardinals have not played since losing 3-0 to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, July 29th. They have played five games so far in the 60-game season.

MLB shuffled the schedule to ensure the Cardinals, Marlins, and other quarantined teams could get in their full 60-game slates. St. Louis was set to play 55 games over 52 days, but this postponement plus potentially more this weekend will make that a difficult task.
