Blue Jays trade for SP Taijuan Walker

The Toronto Blue Jays are in the thick of the playoff race, and on Thursday they added a starting pitcher to boost their chances. The team announced it is trading a player to be named later or cash considerations to the Seattle Mariners for Taijuan Walker. Ken Rosenthal first reported the deal and tweeted the Mariners will be getting a minor leaguer who is not part of Toronto’s 60-man player pool.

Walker has made five starts for the Mariners and is 2-2 with a 4.00 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. He has 25 strikeouts over 27 innings pitched. He made one start for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2018. He pitched in the Diamondbacks final game of 2019 and was subsequently non-tendered and became a free agent. He signed a one-year contract with the Mariners in February.

The MLB trade deadline is next Monday, August 31st at 4 p.m. ET.
