Report: Milwaukee Brewers will not play vs. Reds on Wednesday in protest

UPDATE 6:14 p.m.: Other MLB teams are discussing whether or not to play on Wednesday, per reporter Jeff Passan. The group includes the Seattle Mariners, who have most Black players of any team in MLB. One game has already finished today, and two more are underway.

UPDATE 6:11 p.m.: The two teams “agreed not to play” Wednesday evening, according to reporter Joel Sherman.

The Milwaukee Brewers will not play tonight in Cincinnati against the Reds, according to reporter Jared Diamond. The team has decided to not play the game in aftermath of the Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin. It is not clear yet what management support is and thus whether this is a wildcat strike by the players or an organizational decision.

After the Milwaukee Bucks and then the rest of the NBA playoff teams decided to not play in their respective Wednesday Game 5s in protest, the Brewers are choosing to do the same. Earlier in the day Brewer’s closer Josh Hader responded to questions about the Bucks decision to not play, and said, “It’s a tremendous stand. ...We have to bring light to this situation that we have, it’s a big thing.” per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
