UPDATE 10:39 a.m.: The game has been postponed, not canceled, for the time being.
The New York Yankees were set to face the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, but the game has been canceled, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. It would appear there will be no make-up date.
The game was canceled due to the Miami Marlins Covid-19 outbreak that forced the cancelation of their home opener in Miami against the Baltimore Orioles. The Marlins reportedly had at least 14 players and coaches test positive for the novel coronavirus during their time in Philadelphia and remain there getting tested. Given the Marlins use of the visiting clubhouse, there were concerns about the Yankees moving into it for their upcoming three-game series with the Phillies.
The Phillies are quarantining their clubhouse staff at the moment, according to beat writer Matt Gelb, and the Yankees had brought down their own staff for the series. The clubhouse is being cleaned and sanitized.
