Yankees without DJ LeMahieu, Nationals without Juan Soto in Opening Day lineups

The New York Yankees and Washington Nationals square off to open the 2020 MLB season, with first pitch scheduled for 7:08 p.m. ET at Nationals Park. Gerrit Cole will take the mound for the Yankees, while Max Scherzer will start for the World Series champion Nationals.

Lineup information is coming out, and first we’ve got the Yankees. The most notable absence is DJ LeMahieu. The team activated him off the injury list on Thursday, but it is clear they don’t think he’s quite ready in his return from Covid-19. Tyler Wade gets the start in his place for the time being.

The Nationals lineup should arrive shortly, but they are dealing with Covid-19 implications of their own. On Thursday, reports came out that Juan Soto tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He will need to quarantine himself and eventually test negative on back-to-back tests before he can return.
