UPDATE: Puig had NOT yet signed with the Braves. He will remain a free agent for the time-being. Once he gets cleared, he will likely sign with someone.
Newly-signed Atlanta Braves outfielder Yasiel Puig will not be starting the season on the team’s active roster. Puig announced on Friday that he has tested positive for Covid-19. He said he is asymptomatic and feels fine, but will need to be quarantined until he receives two negative test results.

Puig signed with the Braves to add depth after outfielder Nick Markakis elected to opt out of the 2020 season. The team already lost Freddie Freeman to a positive Covid-19 test, but Freeman was cleared on Friday to return to the team.
The Braves are scheduled to open the season a week from today, on July 24th on the road against the New York Mets. It is unclear if Puig will be cleared in time to play in that game.
