MLB The Show 20 Players League live on ESPN tonight: Who will make the playoffs?

There are two games remaining in the MLB Players League regular season, and they will determine the last two playoff spots tonight on ESPN 2. We break down how to watch.

We’ve got two spots to determine for the MLB The Show 20 Players League quarterfinals, and the final two games of the regular season will determine who advances tonight on ESPN2 live at 10 p.m. ET.

The Players League has been a three week competition where one MLB player from each of the 30 clubs have played The Show 20 video game in a round-robin tournament. Six of the players have locked up their spot in the tournament, but there are three players eligible for the two spots that remain.

We are down to the tiebreaker scenarios, which are as follows:

The Cubs Ian Happ is in the playoffs with a 19-10 record and 78 runs scored (total runs is the first tiebreaker), but his seed can be anywhere from sixth to eighth depending on what happens tonight.

The Dodgers Gavin Lux also sits on a 19-10 record, but with only 77 runs scored he’s on the bubble. He’ll need one of the two games tonight to go his way to make the field.

The Yankees Tommy Kahnle is 18-10, but has scored 90 runs this season. If he defeats the Astros Lance McCullers Jr. tonight, he’s in the playoffs as either the #6 or #7 seed.

The White Sox Lucas Giolito has an 18-10 record, but has scored 96 runs. If he wins over Amir Garrett tonight, he’s in the field as well.

Let’s take a look at the last two games on the schedule which will both be broadcast tonight:

Lance McCullers Jr.: Astros (14-14) vs. Tommy Kahnle: Yankees (18-10)

McCullers here is here merely as a courtesy, as even if he beats Kahnle he won’t advance. Kahnle is in with a win, and would be no worse than a seven seed if he gets there.

Lucas Giolito: White Sox (18-10) vs. Amir Garrett: Reds (17-11)

Garrett has been one of the most entertaining players in the tournament, but his fate of being one or two games short of the playoffs is sealed. All he can do is ruin it for Giolito, who will be either the #6 or #7 seed with a victory depending on the outcome of the other game.

Those teams that make the playoffs will be in a best-of-three quarterfinals starting Friday at 10 p.m. ET on FS1, and continuing on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

The semifinals are also best-of-three on Saturday, and on Sunday the best-of-five Championship Series will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Here’s the standings for the 2020 MLB The Show 20 Players League playoffs bracket, with seeds 1-5 locked in, and seeds 6-8 to be determined tonight:

  1. Blake Snell: Rays (24-5)
  2. Joey Gallo: Rangers (23-6)
  3. Bo Bichette: Blue Jays (21-8)
  4. Jeff McNeil: Mets (21-8)
  5. Dwight Smith Jr.: Orioles (19-10) (119 runs scored)
  6. Ian Happ: Cubs (19-10) (78 runs scored)
  7. Gavin Lux: Dodgers (19-10) (77 runs scored)
  8. Lucas Giolito: White Sox (18-10) (96 runs scored)
  9. Tommy Kahnle: Yankees (18-10) (90 runs scored)
