Mike Golic Sr. and Jessica Smetana are back with the first episode of Golic & Smetty in the new year. The episode begins with a recap of their respective New Year’s Eve festivities and a general agreeance that it is an overhyped holiday as you get older.
Once the duo gets into the day’s topics, they begin with the Rose Bowl. Smetana talks about how she was surprised at Michigan’s performance but attributes the win more to Alabama’s mistakes that led to their downfall rather than the Wolverines.
They move to the Sugar Bowl and highlight the performance of Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The Huskies move on to the National Championship against the Wolverines, and Golic believes that Penix will hear his name called in the top five picks of the draft. Both Golic and Smetana give their predictions for how the title game will go.
The biggest story in college football recently has to be the Pop-Tarts Bowl, with the mascot going into the toaster, and then a human-sized cooked pop-tart popping out for players to munch on. Golic believes that it is now the gold standard for bowl games, while Smetana thinks that it is weird.
The episode wraps with the pair breaking down the Georgia blowout against FSU backups and the final week of the NFL season with all the playoff implications on the line.
