GoJo and Golic preview Thursday Night Football: Can the Rams keep rolling toward the playoffs?

Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. break down tonight’s matchup between the Saints and Rams on Thursday Night Football.

It’s Thursday and you know what that means — it’s time for another Thursday Night Football preview with Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr.!

This week’s matchup is filled with playoff implications as the 7-7 Saints take on the 7-7 Rams. As Jessie notes, the Rams have won four of five and the Saints have won two in a row, so what do GoJo and Senior think heading into this matchup?

GoJo says while the records are identical, he doesn't think there is much of a comparison between these two teams. GoJo says the status of Chris Olave will go a long way (and it looks like he will be a go tonight) for the Saints in this one. When GoJo looks at the teams the Saints have beaten this season, he says he’s not overly heartened by their chances going up against, when not injured, an actual playoff-caliber team in the Rams. Senior is calling the game on radio, so GoJo wants to know if as he’s prepared for the call he’s been more impressed by the Saints than GoJo has been.

Senior adds to GoJo’s point by noting that the Saints are 1-5 against teams .500 or better. Senior says one interesting thing about this game is looking at a short prep window and the difference where if it were a division game it would be easier because you already know your opponent. That’s not what this is. So, here there is a lot more involved and there’s more on your plate from a preparation standpoint. He says the Rams are clearly playing better now and are clearly on a roll, especially Matthew Stafford. Kyren Williams, after missing four games, has just been a terror running the ball, Senior says, and getting into the end zone. And when they’re healthy, the one-two punch of Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua has been fantastic. Senior says one of the big keys for him will be GoJo’s old position, the offensive line. Weeks 1-9, the Rams’ line was 29th in pressure rate and since then they’re sixth. Meanwhile, the New Orleans defense has been playing very well of late, with no touchdowns given up over the last few weeks. So for Senior, the key will be what will the Saints defense do against the suddenly high-powered Rams offense.

Senior says these are two teams playing for the playoff lives and he says New Orleans knows the deal — they know they have to win the NFC South to get into the playoffs while for the Rams it’s a different story.

GoJo says when you combine a much-improved and healthy group up front for the Rams with a running attack that has changed drastically in its approach, he has a lot of faith in that group up front for the Rams, who are currently +3.5 favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook. Senior can’t make a pick since he’s on the call, but GoJo says he would take the Rams and he’s tempted to take the points on the home team given that even if he plays, Olave will be less than 100 percent for the Saints.

Meanwhile, there was some breaking news during the show this morning about Florida State potentially taking the first steps to attempt to break their grant of rights deal with the ACC and GoJo and Senior broke it all down ...
