GoJo and Golic preview Monday Night Football: Will Jalen Hurts be able to go tonight vs. the Seahawks?

Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. preview tonight’s Bengals-Jaguars matchup on Monday Night Football.

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Philadelphia Eagles Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Monday and you know what that means — another Monday Night Football preview with Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr.!

The Eagles travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks and in a microcosm of the 2023 season, we could get a matchup of backup QBs as Jalen Hurts is questionable due to illness and Geno Smith is questionable due to a groin injury.

Illness aside, despite losing back-to-back games, the Eagles still control their own destiny. Senior says if you want to do anything in the playoffs you have to take care of business against the Giants, Arizona and the Giants again. But, Seattle is fighting for a playoff spot as well, so tonight’s game will be a big one for the Seahawks, Senior says.

GoJo says he thinks Philly wins tonight and they’re the team that desperately needs not only the homefield advantage that comes with being the No. 1 seed, but also the bye so they can get themselves healthy as a lot of their flaws this season have come as a result of injury. GoJo says getting that extra week at this point in the year would go a long way in getting past a 49ers team that seems objectively better at this point.

Senior points out an interesting wrinkle. You know what the common theme among the division leaders is? They’ve all had their starting QBs all season. GoJo says this is true of all sports, but especially the NFL because of the inherent violence of the game, but the health of your roster is such a determining factor once we get to the end of the season as to who can make an extended postseason run.

When it comes to tonight’s game, GoJo says the biggest wild card will be the defense as it has been reported there has been a change made when it comes to defensive playcalling.

GoJo says the move to change defensive play-callers doesn’t seem like the type of a move a double-digit win team should be doing. Confusion about the exact nature of the change aside, Senior says GoJo is right that it does seem odd to mix and mingle right now, but the defense has certainly been struggling for the Eagles of late. Meanwhile, the Seahawks are reeling after four straight losses with it seemingly like they could once again be without their starting quarterback and currently sitting as 3.5-point underdogs on DraftKings Sportsbook. As Senior says, this time of the season is all about survival of the fittest, but as GoJo notes, a Drew Lock-Marcus Mariota showdown sure sounds more like a Thursday Night Football matchup to be endured by poor Al Michaels.
