GoJo and Golic Thanksgiving NFL football preview: Can any of the underdogs make things interesting?

Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. preview the three-game Thanksgiving NFL slate.

Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks, and there will be plenty of football to be thankful for. Mike Golic Sr. and Mike Golic Jr. previewed the Thanksgiving NFL slate on Wednesday’s edition of GoJo and Golic.

It’s a three-game slate, but as GoJo notes, none of them are expected to be all that close with all three seeing at least a seven-point spread on DraftKings Sportsbook (Lions -7.5, Cowboys -12 and 49ers -7).

Starting with the early game in Packers-Lions, GoJo asks Senior if he’s surprised at all that the Lions are favored over the Packers by more than a touchdown with Green Bay coming off its biggest win of the season. Senior says he’s not, especially with the Lions serving their traditional role as Thanksgiving host and Green Bay remaining an inconsistent team. Senior does point out that it’s the first time the Lions have been favored on Thanksgiving since 2016. For the Lions, Senior says this is one of those games where you can’t let up, even with a decent lead over the Vikings in the division. You’d like, Senior says, to create a little more distance if your the Lions between yourself and the Vikings. Senior doesn’t think the Vikings are going to catch the Lions, but don’t give Minnesota a reason or hope to think that they can catch Detroit. Win the games you should and Green Bay is a game the Lions should win right now, Senior says.

GoJo thinks the Lions will win this game and should probably cover, but the thing he’s interested in is the young Green Bay receivers coming off a strong game last week. But for the Lions, he thinks this is an opportunity on a big stage to show this is a different Detroit football team with different expectations.

Moving onto the other games on the slate, GoJo says Commanders-Cowboys seems like it could get out of hand. He notes that he’s very afraid for Sam Howell in this one, as anytime you’re a QB and you’re getting mentioned in the same breath as David Carr when it comes to getting sacked, it’s time to check in with your healthcare provider ASAP. To that end, GoJo points out that Howell is sandwiched between Carr for most sacks through 11 games with 51. If the Giants can get to Howell four times, he shudders to think what Micah Parsons could do to Howell on Thanksgiving.

Similar to Detroit, Senior says for Dallas this is one of those games you can’t give up. So he expects both Detroit and Dallas to cover. The best game, he says, should be the last game, hopefully.

GoJo says if you were going to pick one of these teams to go out and pull off a potential upset it would have to be the Seahawks. Senior points out that this is the first of two games in three weeks between the 49ers and Seahawks (with Philly wedged in between for San Francisco). So Senior says that’s a tough stretch for the Niners and an opportunity for the Seahawks to try and be right in the thick of the NFC West race.

The Seahawks will be dealing with some injuries here, as Kenneth Walker III is dealing with an oblique strain and Geno Smith was banged up and had to go in and out of last week’s game, although he looks good to go on Thursday. GoJo does worry about the banged-up Seahawks going against the Niners’ vaunted pass rush and an offense that is whole again. So, GoJo sees no reason why the 49ers should lose. Senior doesn’t either, but is still hoping for a good game, even though he will be giving the points once again. All the favored teams should hold, but as Senior says, it’s football and anything can happen.

Speaking of anything can happen, Senior also had the opportunity to reminisce about his own history with Thanksgiving football, looking back at the infamous Leon Lett game in 1993.

Meanwhile, Jessie has an interesting choice for Thanksgiving food she’s looking forward to ...
