Whether you’re chasing or just not a football fan, there is always a Sunday NBA DFS slate waiting for you. These slates are not very big, so the research process can be light. While everyone else dedicates their day to the NFL, we can get ahead by digging into the six-game DraftKIngs evening slate that starts at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Delay the work week a few more hours. Get in on some NBA DFS action, and start by enjoying another colorful weekend edition of the NBA Targets.

Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic, $9,900 — On one hand, a matchup with the Magic isn’t preferrable — the Magic’s 108.9 Defensive Efficiency Rating ranks in the top 5. Orlando just beat the Nuggets in Denver. On the other hand, the Magic are inside the top 10 in pace. The Hawks are fast and hungry. Orlando could slip a little after their big win. This game is basically a pick ‘em with a 239.5 total (biggest on the slate). How do the Hawks hang if Trae does not go off?

Desmond Bane, Memphis Grizzlies at Phoenix Suns, $8,000 — Playing side-by-side with PG Ja Morant ($9,600), Bane score 54.25 DKFP on Friday Jan. 5. Morant is questionable to play Sunday. Bane is in play if Morant plays. If Morant is out, then Bane is a stud. Other Grizzlies will become obvious value targets: SG Luke Kennard ($4,300), SF/PF Ziaire Williams ($4,100) and SF Vince Williams Jr. ($4,100). Note: Williams is also questionable. His absence could boost the others.

Alec Burks, Detroit Pistons at Denver Nuggets, $5,100 — The Pistons are on a terrible run. Burks is on a decent run. He’s scored over 19 DKFP in each of the last six games. More significantly, he’s scored over 30 DKFP in two of the last three. This game looks like another terrible night for the Pistons. Burks could pickup extra blowout minutes as the Pistons are large road dogs in Denver.

Paolo Banchero, Orlando Magic vs. Atlanta Hawks, $9,000 — The 2022 NBA Draft No. 1 pick has scored over 50 DKFP in five straight games. His best game was his last game — 69.5 DKFP in a 122-120 win in Denver. The Magic were thin in the front court for that matchup, and they will likely be thin on Sunday versus the Hawks. Not only is Banchero hot and set to carry more usage, the matchup is great. The Hawks are an up-tempo team that play horrible defense.

Peyton Watson, Denver Nuggets vs. Detroit Pistons, $4,400 — In three of the last five games, the 2023 first-round pick has scored over 14 points (19, 14 and 20) and 25 DKFP (26, 26 and 31). The 20-point game is worth noting. He started, but more importantly it was a blowout win. The Nuggets are 16-point favorites at home against the Pistons. The Nuggets bench is a sneaky and risky source of value on Sunday. SG/SF Christian Braun ($4,000), Denver’s 2022 first-round pick, scored 23 DKFP in two of the last five games. Both were blowouts.

Jonathan Kuminga, Golden State Warriors vs. Toronto Raptors, $5,900 — For this pick, the NBA DFS Targets article goes full soap opera. Steve Kerr lamented not playing Kuminga enough on Thursday. Kuminga agreed and respectfully complained. On Friday, Kuminga played 36 minutes but only scored 18 DKFP. The minutes and motivation are there, but will Kuminga be? He’s questionable to play Sunday. If he’s out then SF/PF Andrew Wiggins ($4,900) and the Warriors front court get a boost on this six-game slate.

Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves at Dallas Mavericks, $7,400 — The Mavs are playing small. Their front court is depleted. This is an easy matchup for Towns and it comes at the right time. His salary is suppressed by a month of limited minutes. His minutes are back up and he broke out on Friday (41.5 DKFP).

Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets vs. Detroit Pistons, $11,200 — Are there blowout concerns? Yes. Does Jokic care? No. He’s full-court pressing in the fourth, and he doesn’t care about Steve Kerr’s feelings. He definitely doesn’t feel sorry for the Pistons. There’s no time for that. The Nuggets are coming off a home loss. It’s time to turn it back on. The blow out will happen, but Jokic will still get there. He scored 66 DKFP in 30 minutes when the Nuggets beat the Grizzlies 142-105 on Dec. 28.

Mortiz Wagner, Orlando Magic vs. Atlanta Hawks, $5,600 — C Wendell Carter Jr. ($5,400) and C Goga Bitadze ($5,500) did not play on Jan. 5. Mo Wagner played 38 minutes and scored 43.75 DKFP. If both big men are on the bench again, load up more Mo. Also, the Hawks present a good matchup in terms of pace (3rd) and defense (29th).
