SHOWDOWN STRATEGY

Captain’s Pick

Lamar Jackson (CP $18,000)

This is a nonnegotiable. Jackson must be in DFS Showdown lineups on Sunday night. A strong argument can be made that Jackson is better in the flex spot based on his salary and the resulting lineup construction restraints. Based on potential raw points, Jackson deserves the Captain’s spot spotlight. Quarterback rating doesn’t affect a player’s fantasy score, but it does suggest whether a player will score NFL DFS points or not. Jackson earned a 121.3 QB Rating in Week 11 vs. the Bengals. He has an 88 QB Rating or higher in eight of the last 10 games. In five of those eight, he’s scored 23 DKFP or more. Jackson has rushed for 535 yards this season, and he may be required to use his legs more without TE Mark Andrews.

FLEX Plays

Isaiah Likely ($5,200)

This is a popular pick in traditional fantasy. The waiver wire warriors jumped on Likely. The backup tight end is not a must roster on this slate. If the Ravens were on the main slate, Likely wouldn’t necessarily be an obvious value pick. That’s what makes this pick work. Likely won’t be popular, but he’s cheap and will be on the field for a lot of snaps. It’s not just snaps. The Ravens utilize the tight end position. Likely could squander this opportunity. He is a backup for a reason. It’s likely that Likely busts. That’s a part of the tournament process for DraftKings DFS NFL Showdown Contests. Risks must be taken, but this doesn’t seem to be too radical.

Odell Beckham, Jr. ($6,200)

Can OBJ step up and lead the Ravens to the Super Bowl? Is there enough fuel in the tank? Beckham has played nine games this season. That is the most he’s played in four years. His 374 receiving yards are the most he’s gained over that span. The glass half full view is that he’s rested. The glass half empty is that the stats indicate that his tank is empty. Beckham’s abilities remain in question, but what is not in question is the opportunity. Mark Andrews is likely out for the season. Beckham is flanked by young unproven receivers. The Ravens OC is aggressive. On Sunday night, OBJ could suddenly emerge as a major feature in this offensive scheme.

Gus Edwards ($8,600)

The bus stop is the end zone. The Gus Bus has scored nine rushing touchdowns in the last five games. This definitely hurts Lamar Jackson’s value. NFL DFS players will need to strongly consider whether it makes sense to play Jackson and Edwards in the same lineup. Jackson looks good, but so does Edwards. The problem with Edwards — which will likely lead most to pick Jackson — is his volume. It’s a split back field. Edwards’ work in the passing game is modest and his carries are sufficient. More is needed. More won’t be given. Many will fade. The fades could get burnt. Volume or not, Edwards can blow up the slate with multiple TDs or a big play. That’s something he has done in four of the last five games. In those four contests, Edwards scored 21.4, 29.4, 17.2 and 21 DKFP.

Fades

Austin Ekeler ($10,000)

By now, everyone has seen the Week 11 highlight. Ekeler turned the corner and sprinted — that might not be the most accurate word — down the sideline. A second later, a group of defensive players jumped on his back. The defense didn’t swallow a mushroom in Mario Kart. Ekeler wasn’t running in quicksand. His injury is lingering. This is too much salary for a player that is no longer explosive. Ekeler will continue to receive volume, but 60 yards rushing and a handful of catches won’t get it done at this price on an NFL DFS Showdown Slate.

THE OUTCOME

The Chargers are the most consistent inconsistent team over the last decade. The Ravens are the most consistent consistent team over the last decade. Forget about the players on the field. Coaching matters. The Ravens have the clear advantage in that department.

Final Score: Baltimore Ravens 31, Los Angeles Chargers 17
