While it’s March Madness and the 2023 NCAA basketball tournament is in the spotlight, let’s not forget about our friends on the ice. The 2023 NCAA hockey tournament is set to begin this week as regionals begin. Here we’re going to go over the teams who are favored and provide bracket updates and scores for the tournament.
The top seeds in each region are comprised 1-4 with Minnesota being the top overall seed. Quinnipiac (2), Michigan (3) and Denver (4) round out the field of seeded team. The Gophers are betting favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook to win the tournament at +250 while Michigan is +350. Those two teams met in the Big Ten tournament final and the Wolverines came out on top 4-3.

Regional First Round
Fargo, North Dakota
No. 1 Minnesota 9, Canisius 2
Canisius put up a fight early on but the Gophers were too much, pulling away for a blowout win in the regional opener. Logan Cooley had three assists while Bryce Brodzinski scored a hat trick with an assist in the win.
St. Cloud State 4, Minnesota State 0
Jaxon Castor made 34 saves in a shutout win over Minnesota State on Thursday to help St. Cloud State advance to the regional final.
Manchester, New Hampshire
Cornell 2, No. 4 Denver 0
Ian Shane made 26 saves in a shutout win over the No. 4 seeded Denver on Thursday. Jack O’Leary had a goal and an assist for Cornell.
Boston University 5, Western Michigan 1
Lane Hutson and Quinn Hutson each scored for the Terriers in the win over Western Michigan to advance to face the winner of Denver-Cornell. Ethan Phillips added a goal and two assists for BU.
No. 2 Quinnipiac 5, Merrimack 0
Ohio State 8, Harvard 1
The Buckeyes smoked Harvard in the regional matchup on Friday afternoon. Cam Thiesing had two goals and an assist while Jake Wise had four assists for Ohio State, which awaits the winner of Quinnipiac-Merrimack in the regional final.
Penn State 8, Michigan Tech 0
No. 3 Michigan 11, Colgate 1
Defenseman Luke Hughes had a goal and three assists, and Seamus Casey had three assists in the Wolverines’ dismantling of Colgate in the regional opener for the NCAA hockey tournament on Friday.
