Former UNLV quarterback Jayden Maiava will transfer to Georgia, per Pete Nakos of On3 Sports. The Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year will presumably sit behind returning starter Carson Beck next season before having a shot at starting in 2025.
Redshirting as a true freshman in 2022, Maiava entered this past season as the backup behind Doug Brumfield. He took over for Brumfield in their Week 3 matchup against Vanderbilt, leading the Rebels to a 40-37 victory over the SEC program. This turned out to be a revelation for first-year head coach Barry Odom, as the redshirt freshman led UNLV to a 9-3 record in the regular season. He ended up completeing 63.5% of his passes for 3,085 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions for the year.
The move comes a few weeks after Georgia lost five-star QB prospect Dylan Railoa to Nebraska, who was being positioned as the eventual successor to Beck. Now they have one of the promising young QB’s in the sport in the building and will get to mold him over the next few seasons.
