The 2024 College Football National Championship kicks off on Monday, January 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The No. 1 Michigan Wolverines take on the No. 2 Washington Huskies at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The championship will air on ESPN, with their No. 1 crew of Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler calling the game. Both Holly Rowe and Molly McGrath will be reporting from the sidelines. Herbstreit does more color commentary than anyone in football between his Thursday Night Football duties for Amazon Prime as well as the Worldwide Leader. Add to it his work as a studio host on College Gameday, and he’s on camera as much as anyone from August to January.

Michigan enters the matchup — their first championship game in the college football playoff era — after losing in the semifinals each of the last two years. The Wolverines bring the country’s best defense to the field, holding opponents to 10.2 points and 280 yards per game. Both of these stat lines lead the nation. On offense, keep an eye on running back Blake Corum, who recently broke the school’s record for rushing touchdowns.

Washington takes a far more offense-forward approach. With quarterback Michael Penix leading the charge, the Huskies average 350 passing yards per game — the most in the country. Wide receiver Rome Odunze is projected to be a first round draft pick in 2024, and WR Ja’Lynn Polk reached the 1,000-yard receiving mark this season.

Michigan enters as a 4.5-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook, with the total set at 56.5.
