The 2024 FCS Championship will take place on Sunday as the No. 2 Montana Grizzlies will meet the No. 1 South Dakota State Jackrabbits at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, TX. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET and the title game will air nationally on ABC.
Montana (13-1) has reached the FCS title game and is searching for its first national title since 2001. The team carved its way through the Big Sky this season, with its lone loss coming at the hands of Northern Arizona back in September. The Grizzlies were strong up front on defense and they limited opponents to just 16.8 points per game. They were led by Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year Alex Gubner at defensive tackle, who has 39 tackles, 9.5 TFLs, and three sacks heading into Sunday’s title game.
Montana defeated Delaware, Furman, and North Dakota State in the playoffs to reach the title game.
South Dakota State (14-0) is on the verge winning a second straight national championship and establishing itself as the new powerhouse of FCS. The Jackrabbits displayed total dominance on both sides of the ball under first-year head coach Jimmy Rogers, averaging 38.4 ppg on offense while leading the nation in scoring defense with opponents averaging just 9.7 ppg. Quarterback Mark Gronowski is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, throwing for 2,883 passing yards, running for 349 rushing yards, and accounting for 35 total touchdowns. He shared Co-MVFC Offensive Player of the Year honors with running back Isaiah Davis, who has 1,491 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground.
South Dakota State defeated Mercer, Villanova, and Albany in the playoffs to reach its second straight title game.
