How can Seahawks clinch a playoff spot in Week 18?

We discuss the scenarios that could see the Seahawks clinching a playoff spot in Week 18.

Update, Sunday evening: The Seahawks have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Update, Sunday afternoon: The Buccaneers won against the Panthers, eliminating one path to the playoffs for the Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks enter Week 18 of the regular season in a familiar position. Last season, the Seahawks needed the Green Bay Packers to lose to the Detroit Lions in order to make the postseason. Again, the Seahawks need a Packers loss on Sunday to get in. We go over the scenarios for Seattle to make the playoffs at 8-8 going into Week 18 vs. the Arizona Cardinals.

Seahawks playoff clinching scenarios - Week 18

  • SEA win over ARI and GB loss or tie to CHI
  • SEA tie vs. ARI; GB loss to CHI; TB loss or tie to CAR
  • SEA tie vs. ARI; GB loss to CHI; NO loss or tie to ATL

It’s not crazy to think history repeats itself this season. Last year, we saw Aaron Rodgers and the Packers denied a spot and the team finds itself in a similar situation — at home vs. a division rival to make the playoffs. The Packers are favored but this game should be either super competitive or a Green Bay blowout. That’ll at least give Seattle a bit of hope or a quick ending depending on how the game goes. Seahawks-Cardinals and Bears-Packers will be on at the same time. The Seahawks will likely be focused on taking care of a Cardinals team that upset the Eagles in Week 17.
