The Houston Texans defeated the Indianapolis Colts 23-19 on Saturday to clinch a playoff berth into the 2023 NFL Playoffs. The Texans can win the AFC South division title if the Jacksonville Jaguars lose to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. If the Jaguars win, the Texans will be the No. 7 seed in the AFC playoffs and face either the Miami Dolphins or the Buffalo Bills on the road in the first round. The Dolphins and Bills face each other on Sunday Night Football to close out the regular season.
Rookie QB CJ Stroud led a TD drive late in the fourth quarter to help Houston seal the win. The Colts had a few chances to score but miscues and a failed 4th and 1 conversion helped Houston to the win. Stroud finished 20/26 for 264 yards and two TDs in his first unofficial NFL playoff game.
The Texans are one of the biggest turnaround teams in NFL history. Houston went from finishing 3-13-1 in 2022 to get the second overall pick in the draft. That pick was used to select QB CJ Stroud, who has lifted the franchise back to relevancy and into the postseason for the first time since 2019. Stroud is one of the favorites to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. Credit is also due to first-year coach DeMeco Ryans, who took the defense from being ranked 25th in points allowed in 2022 to 13th in 2023 going into Week 18.
