Who could Texans play in the AFC Wild Card Round?

Houston advanced to the Wild Card round by clinching a playoff berth with a 23-19 win over the Colts on Saturday. Who might the Texans play in the first round?

The Houston Texans clinched a playoff berth out of the AFC with a 23-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night. Houston improved to 10-7 on the season and currently hold down the No. 7 seed in the AFC playoff picture. The Texans can get a home game in the playoffs by winning the AFC South if the Jacksonville Jaguars lose to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Here we’ll go over the possible opponents for the Texans in the first round.

Most likely Wild Card Round opponent

Houston should end up getting the No. 7 seed in the postseason, so the most likely opponent is either the Miami Dolphins or Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins host the Bills on Sunday Night Football in Week 18 with the AFC East division title on the line. Whoever wins will get the No. 2 seed in the conference.

Possible Wild Card Round opponents

If the Jags lose and the Texans win the division, we would see Houston facing the Cleveland Browns. That seems more like a stretch but it’s a possibility.

How have the Texans fared against these teams this season?

The Texans haven’t faced the Bills or Dolphins so far this season. Houston did however face the Browns a few weeks ago and things did not go well for the Texans in a 36-22 loss. Now, that was with QB CJ Stroud sidelined due to a concussion. Stroud being back changes the Texans’ outlook for this game dramatically. WR Amari Cooper torched Houston’s secondary, which would be a point of emphasis for head coach DeMeco Ryans going into that contest.
