NFL playoff picture: What does Jaguars-Titans mean for AFC standings

The Jaguars face the Titans in Nashville on Sunday. We break down what the game means for the NFL playoff picture.

The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to face the Tennessee Titans facing a fairly simple clinching situation. It could grow complicated, as we’ll describe below, but winning would clear up a lot of things in a hurry.

The AFC South matchup kicks off at 1 p.m. ET and the Jaguars are a five-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook. The biggest question for this game is how Trevor Lawrence feels. The Jaguars quarterback sat out last week’s game with a right shoulder injury. He did not practice at all, but returned to practice this week.

The Jaguars are tied with the Colts and Texans at 9-7, but hold the tiebreaker over Indianapolis and the division record tiebreaker over Houston. If Jacksonville beat Tennessee, they clinch the AFC South. They can also clinch the division if they tie the Titans and the Colts and Texans tie in their matchup.

If the Jaguars tie and Colts-Texans does not end in a tie, Jacksonville can clinch a wild card berth with a Steelers loss or tie against the Ravens. If the Jaguars lose to the Titans, they can clinch a wild card berth with a Steelers loss, a Broncos loss or tie against the Raiders, and Texans-Colts not ending in a tie.
