The Los Angeles Rams will take on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 18 of the regular season. Los Angeles has already secured a playoff berth and is in contention for the No. 6 or No. 7 seed. Despite that difference, they are reportedly going with Carson Wentz under center to give starter Matthew Stafford a break before the playoffs, per Mike Garafolo.

Stafford has played in 15 games this season. He has thrown for 3,965 yards with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Stafford and the Rams are just two years removed from winning their last Super Bowl. It wouldn’t be surprising if Los Angeles rests other players now, as they will be going on the road in the Wild Card round regardless.

Wentz hasn’t played all season and will be starting his first game since he was with the Washington Commanders last year. This is the eighth NFL season for Wentz, but it has been a rollercoaster recently. He spent the first five years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, then spent one year each with the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders. He was on the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2018 but was hurt, which led to Nick Foles starting.
