Who might the Cleveland Browns play in the AFC Wild Card round?

The Browns are locked into the 5th seed in the AFC playoffs, but who might they play in the Wild Card round?

The Cleveland Browns will start their fifth quarterback of the season to finish out the 2023 regular season against the Bengals. In the past that would automatically mean the Browns had yet another bad season, but not this time around! The Browns have the No. 5 seed wrapped up and will rest Joe Flacco for Jeff Driskel! Try to tell your past self this information and not get laughed out of the room you’ve time-traveled to.

The Browns are locked into the No. 5 seed, and that means they will go on the road to play the winner of the AFC South, which still has three teams vying for that finish. The Jaguars, Colts and Texans all are tied at 9-7, with the Jaguars the only team that can take the title outright with a win and no needed help.

Most likely Wild Card Round opponent

Cleveland Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars

If the Jaguars beat the Titans on Sunday, they take the division and the Browns will head to Jacksonville. The Jaguars are currently 5.5-point favorites over the Titans.

If the Jaguars lose to the Titans on Sunday night, the Browns will play whoever wins the Saturday night game between the Texans and Colts. The Texans are just 1-point favorites on the road in this matchup over at DraftKings Sportsbook.

How have the Browns fared against these teams this season?

Week 7: Browns 39, Colts 38

P.J. Walker, now the third-string QB for Cleveland, was the starter in this high-scoring affair that ended on a Kareem Hunt 1-yard TD run with 15 second remaining.

Week 14: Browns 31, Jaguars 27

This was Joe Flacco’s second start and first win with the Browns. He showed he had plenty left in the tank as he threw for 311 yards and 3 TDs.

Week 16: Browns 36, Texans 22

Joe Flacco to Amari Cooper went for 265 receiving yards and two touchdowns, as the Browns coasted against the C.J. Stroud-less Texans. Case Keenum started for the concussed Stroud and was benched for Davis Mills. The Texans should have Stroud if they meet again.
