College basketball picks: No. 16 Clemson vs. Miami

We go over the odds on DraftKings Sportsbook for the Tigers vs. Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

NCAA Basketball: Stonehill at Miami (FL) Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

The No. 16 Clemson Tigers take on the Miami Hurricanes in an ACC matchup on Wednesday, January 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET from Miami. The Tigers enter as 1-point road favorites.

Clemson (11-1, 1-0 ACC) most recently defeated Radford, 93-58. The Tigers’ only loss this year came against Memphis by two points, and they have defeated Alabama, South Carolina, and TCU, among others. The Tigers rank 19th overall at KenPom and 17th in adjusted offensive efficiency.

Center PJ Hall averages over 20 points per game for the Tigers, one of three players averaging in double digits in the scoring column. Clemson scores 82.3 points per game (32nd in the nation) and goes 39.2% from the perimeter (11th in the nation).

Miami (10-2, 1-0 ACC) is fresh off a 95-55 win over North Florida. Their losses have come against Kentucky and Colorado. The Hurricanes rank 54th at KenPom, landing at 28th in adjusted offensive efficiency but failing to crack the top 100 on the defensive side.

Miami is led by forward Norchad Omier, who averages a team-high 17.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game on average. The Hurricanes score 84.7 points per game (17th in the nation) on 50.7% shooting (7th in the nation). They have plenty of offensive depth, with four players averaging 12 or more points per game. The Hurricanes are also one of the best three-point shooting teams in the nation, averaging 41.2% from the perimeter.

This will be a matchup between two high-powered offenses with weaker defenses. Expect to see plenty of shots from beyond the three-point line. Miami has more depth at scoring and will have home court advantage here, so I’m going with the underdogs to take this one home.
