The Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket and Florida State Seminoles look to get 2024 started with a win when the two clash in Tallahassee on Wednesday.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Florida State Seminoles (-4, 143)
Both teams enter Wednesday matchup playing far more uptempo than they did a season ago with Georgia Tech 138th in possessions per game after ranking 217th last season and Florida State entered Tuesday 43rd in this department after ranking 157th a season ago.
The amount of points allowed per possession by each team is nearly equal with Florida State 115th in points allowed on a per game basis while Georgia Tech is 121st this category, but the Yellow Jackets have struggled on defense away from home, allowing 14 more points per 100 possessions in road and neutral court games than at home.
For the first eight games of the season, Florida State had to play without Georgetown transfer guard Primo Spears, who averaged 16 points and 5.3 assists per game last season, and since a 57 point clunker in his first game back, the offense has averaged 5.6 more points per 100 possessions in the course of the past three games.
The Florida State perimeter defense has also been exposed recently, allowing opponents to shoot 42.3% from 3-point range in the past five games, which has caused their issues on the boards to be magnified.
Florida State is allowing opponents to rebound 31.1% of their missed shots this season, which ranks 292nd in the nation’s top and faces a Georgia Tech squad that is grabbing an offensive rebound on 35.1% of their missed shots, which ranks 25th nationally.
With the Florida State has had on the glass coupled with entering having allowed at least 75 points in four of their last six games, Wednesday’s ACC showdown will turn into an up-and-down offensive slugfest.
